Welcome...
Janet Hayes is a ceramicist based in Connecticut, who creates pieces inspired by the expressions and gestures of people, and glimpses of quiet moments in nature. Her work demonstrates the interplay between form, movement, shape , and texture.
Her work is dynamic and whimsical. Street photographs of unposed people are a source for pieces that display feet, heads, and legs of animals or people which extend from a larger middle section. Other rectangular containers are adorned with samples of dense vegetation, flowers, insects, and plants of her backyard.
Janet is influence by the work of Gian Berini, Jean Carpeaux, Auguste Rodin, Rookwood pottery, Fujikasa Satoko, and Bonnie Seeman. She also draws much of her inspiration from the transcendental landscape paintings of the American 20th century painter Charles Burchfield.
